We've been open a year, but still have not nearly as many clientele as we should....we are not able to pay our bills, so we cannot afford heavy advertising. With the cold weather, no one is willing to walk around and hand out fliers. Any ideas on a way to cheaply advertise?

This may seem crazy, but I'm serious! Find some independent sales reps in your area.... Avon, Tupperware, Pampered Chef, etc and contact them about putting flyers in with their brochures they pass out!! If you have a building, offer for them to put their brochures in your business. SWAP! I do this with MANY MANY businesses!!! (Im an Avon Lady) Also, if you have a website, promote it! Have a referral program!! Create punch cards for your guest .... after 10 punches get $15 off next visit, something!! good Luck to you! I know how discouraging it may be ....

You hand out the fliers yourself. Try a cross advertisement. Find other pet business like a vet. You promote them and they promote you. Also pet photogrophers. I don't know what you do so obviously don't try to do this with your competors. Coupons are good. I prefer coupons that are more about a gift with purchase than a % off service. I don't believe in cheapening services, but an added bonus is always good. Advertise @ the local YMCA, churches, parks, the libraries, colleges, etc.

Why dont you try some PR? Get a news story together and approach the local press, make it fun, or informative, snap a neat picture, and an angle (cats freeze in icy snap etc) and get some covereage - lot work no real cost!

Or try calling all you old clients to recommend a friend and give them £10 or 20% off their next bill...

Good Luck

Good Luck.
