well iwas born in juneau and lived in yakutat, anchorage, and fairbanks.they have high school football teams in the upper north regins that i know of,if kids my age can handle the weather with normal under armour, shouldn't pro players be able to handle the cold too?besides if you based the team in anchorage, the weathe is not a factor as it barely snows, because of el nino.and they already have barrow whalers, and the whole town comes to support every game.why shouldn't anchorage?

I'd rather see Alaska get a football team than Los Angeles!

Although it would be great for every state to have an nfl football team, thats not how the league runs. The league is very profit motivated. There isn't a market in Alaska for a team. There aren't enough people to fill the stadium or for an adequate t.v. audience. People may say the same about Green Bay, but the only reason the Packers are still around is because they have survived for close to 100 years now and have one of the most devoted fans (who also own the team and keep it afloat). The owners would have to vote on whether they would want a team in Alaska, and I doubt that they are going to want to fly their teams to a cold place while their practice time would be hindered by all the traveling, while also sharing the profits with another team as well (profit sharing). Also, take note of the fact that there is no team in L.A. The reason this is, is to keep pressure on the host cities to help the teams or else the team will relocate to L.A. There are so many reasons why Alaska would not have a team, it just doesn't make sense. Sorry.

I live in Alaska and I say no. To start with, the only market would be Anchorage and the only place to put a stadium, more specifically a dome, is out in the middle of nowhere about an hours drive (on a good day) north of the city. Second, there just aren't enough people from here to get behind a local team. Probably half of the residents here are imports from the lower forty-eight with strong loyalties to other teams. Assuming you could convert every person in the state to be fans of the Alaska team, that only leaves you with roughly 600,000 fans. Half of those people would never be able to attend a game because getting there during the winter is next to impossible from a lot of places.

Why give the league find one more ridiculously cold place to play? I mean not only would they have to deal with the cold but they'd also have to deal with their bizarre hours of daylight and night (at times they can have 22 hours of daylight or night depending on the season). Oh and about the cold, their average high this last October, 6.8 degrees Fahrenheit. I bet those guys out there making millions of dollars would just love that experience. And you thought Eli was anxious to get out of San Diego a few years ago, wonder what the reaction of the first round draft pick that year would be?

What it all comes down to is the money and no owner in his right mind would move his team to Alaska. It would be bankruptcy in the waiting.

I don't think it would be a good idea. I'm not saying the football fans in Alaska don't deserve it, any location that has dedicated football fans deserve a team, but geographically it wouldn't work. Imagine the Dolphins playing the Seahawks every week and the teams just switched home field(one week in Miami, next week in Seattle, and back and forth). For a team in Alaska, that is what it would be like and for the visitors. The trip would be too long and hard on players.

To travel there for road teams would be Brutal. Especially a team like Miami or Tampa Bay. They'd be so jetlagged from the long flight, they'd play like crap. Not to mention that the season starts picking up in the dead of Winter. The runways would be iced down, plane delays, and if it's an outdoor stadium it would be unbearable. You can't put the athletes' heath at risk like that.

If you're gonna give any state outside our bounds a team, you have to go with somewhere in Hawaii. Weather's beautiful year round. The people there would support the team, the players all around the league would want to go play there, and there's always tourists there at all times of the year who would go to the games as well.

How cool would that be? If you're a Seahawks fan and you wanted to go to Hawaii, you could intentionally schedule your trip around that game and kill two birds with one stone.

As a resident of Los Angeles, I think it would be hilarious if they got a team before we do. So, yes! Give Anchorage a team!
Travel might be an issue though. What is that, like a 20-hour flight to Florida? :)
