Yes. Anything that happens on your property, you are responsible for.

Different example: A solicitor come up your driveway to try to sell you something you didn't ask for. He trips and hurts himself. He can ask you for medical treatment payments.

That's why there is homeowner's insurance.

Absolutely not. It would be a hard case to prove against you. You have the right to leave your dog unleashed provided the fact that it stays on your property. It's the neighboring dog that shouldn't have been on your property and in all likelihood provoked your dog to attack. The owner of the other is 100% responsible in the case.

you could be responsible. if i was you i would keep the dog chained up or in a fenced area. this way when the other dog comes on your property you wont be in any trouble. you could try pressing charges for their dog coming on your property. any one who has a pet and does not keep in chained or in a fenced area is very irresponsible, they don't need the pet. i have 3 small dogs. when let them out to do their business they go in a fenced yard. where i live if a dog keeps coming on your property you can get a warrant for the dog owner. good luck.

You are both guilty of violating leash laws. However, you should check with an attorney to make sure of the laws in your state regarding "dogs at large" to find out if you are going to be held liable for the damage to the other dog.

Good luck!

I don't think so due to its your property the neighbor dog was trespassing. If I break into your home and you injure me...its not your fault because you were protecting yourself and may have felt threatened. (Self-defense)

You need to search the laws of YOUR state concerning "Animals at Large" which if the law exists...you neighbors pet was in violation.

As for paying anothers vet bill....I'd wait to see what legal action is before you before paying for THEIR violation!

Unfortunately, yes, but if your neighbor is sane they won't press charges. You should offer to pay for any veterinarian bills incurred by your neighbor, or at least help out with them.
