Does anyone know of any Yoruba language courses i can take to help me assimilate into African culture. Also any tips to help me fit in and show respect for the local culture/traditions?

I will be going to Lagos. I appreciate that Nigeria is an English speaking country and that not all Nigerians are Yoruba. However my bf is Yoruba and i'd like to learn more.

First of all you must bear in mind there are 145 million+Nigerians
About1/4 are Yoruba
Are you coming to live in Nigeria, if so where?
There are at least 10/12 major cultural groupings
Apart from these distinctive languages, there are another 200+
sub-clans,dialects etc
The sites for Yorba are fine as far as they go,but Yoruba is a tonal language and can only be mastered by conversation.
The same looking word can have entirely different meaning dependent on how it is pronounced!
Anyway,good luck!
Just be polite, respectful, stand for elders, respectable dress!
(you can still go mad at parties/discos!)

The official language of Nigeria is English, so you shouldn't have a major communication problem, however, I think it's great that you want to learn a native language.

Here are some language learning sites and places to order software:
