All I remember is it had rings on the cover, there was a sarcastic female protagonist whose nemises were a pair of twins who followed her through different colored rings, which led to different worlds. Blue ring = water world, brown ring = slow, earthy world, etc. If you died in one of these worlds, someone could drag your body back through the ring and you'd be brought back to life. I have checked various databases (library of congress, local library catalog where I first got the book, amazon, powells, b&n), but don't seem to have enough info to identify this book or its author. Was a great read and would love to find it again. It had to be published before 1991 cuz that's when I graduated high school, and I read it when I was a junior or senior.
