I just started a 30+ gallon tank with 1 male gold mickey mouse, 2 gold mickey mouse platies, and 2 sunburst platies (I think both female). I assume that male will mate with any of the females (incl. the sunburst), and I am curious to know what the babies will look like. Any links to pictures would be fabulous.

First, make sure you have males and females. If you look at the anal fin (it's the last fin on the bottom before the tail starts) and it's pointed, it's a male. If it's a 'complete' fin that is full of radii, then it's a female. Secondly, one of the most amazing things about platies is that the female can store sperm from one fertilization for the rest of her life and continue to 're-use' the first mating. So, what does that mean to you? You may not actually get the 'cross' breeding of the platies that you want.
Now, if you do get the crosses, generally genetics says that you will get the dominant gene. In platies, I'm not sure which is dominant and which is recessive. But, if the female and the male both have recessive genes, usually they will express at 25% or so. Good luck and have fun.

Oh yes. I cross breed platies all the time. I have three breeding groups (1 male 3 females). In three tanks. I have one of each kind I can find. One group consist of a male which is a Red Wag, females include Mickey Mouse, Sunburst, Panda and a Bumblebee. I get mixed colors of everything. I wouldn't put a swordtail or skirts in a ten gallon, just too small. I would stick with platies, and maybe a couple of cories. Wait until you get your 30 gallon to get them.
