When he traps someone in the jutsu, does he get hurt if the person who is trapped receives damage? During the Chunin Exams, he traps Kin, leans back, and causes her to hit her head on a wall and he's fine. Then, when he traps Gaara in the hospital, he gets injured when Naruto socks Gaara.

ok, so when he made Rin hit the wall he didnt get hurt, only she did because he didnt actually hit the wall right? and when he put Gaara in Kage Mane no Jutsu, he wasnt actually hurt( by the punch) he actually only moved in the position that Gaara did. Quote (kinda) : Hey watch it Naruto! When Im in the Kage Mane no Jutsu, my body MOVES along too!" so when the person he traps is hurt he doesn't feel the pain, but if the person moves and he doesnt stop it or anything, he moves along as well. Hope that helped a little! ^_^

this is so because when shikamaru traps someone and causes them to hurt themselves with his technique he does not get hurt but if his opponent is being moved somehow by something or someone else[naruto] shikamaru would not get hurt but would simply be moved along with his opponent.

good catch. i think the 2 incidents you quotes aren't consistent with each other. the writers might have been careless and made a mistake.
