Everybody borrows from others.

One of the things that Romans did, superstitious pragmatics that they were, is if they could beat a nation, they would, within their acceptable means, worship the local deities--after all, the locals must have done something wrong or else they (the gods) would have fought for their people. So they were, in a fashion, grateful to those deities.

In similar fashion to canabals who eat their slain enemies in order to acquire the strengths of their adversaries, Romans adopted what worked and what was good or valuable.
