No. 1 is good
No. 2 is completely awful
Battle Royale 1 is a great film but the sequel should never be viewed.

the setting is this:
in the future, with rampant unemployment and students boycotting school and becoming delinquents. the adults decided to pass a law (since they feared the youth) called the BR act. they would randomly take one middle school class and send them to a remote location where these students who had grown up together, shared dreams and hopes, loves and hates, would have to kill each other until one remained.
BTW, this isn't a spoiler... you're told all this within the first 5 minutes of the film... and probably on the back of the DVD cover as well.
the first film centres on one of these classes. i highly recommend this film. it is bloody and graphic but you see how diff students deal with it in diff ways. I'd say more but i know I'd do you and injustice if i gave you a more detailed review than what I've already said.
the second movie BR:2 deals with the survivors of the first movie who have decided to fight back against the adults. the adults decide to stage a new kind of BR game where the students are sent against the survivors of the first movie.
this second movie isn't as good as the first. it is less imaginative and not as interesting a film. if you want to watch both films then i'm not going to stop you (i own both myself) but if you'd like my advice, stick with the first film and leave it at that.

Yes both are Japanese films. A film buff friend of me lent me number one (which I enjoyed), and she quite rated. She hated number two and took the view that if I wanted to borrow it I could keep it. In fact would I just take it away......
Nuff said.

I totally agree - the first one is great - although if you don't know much about it be prepared for a lot of killings (in unusual and often quite grimly funny ways). I was dubious of the second one, because it really doesn't need a sequel, and it was total rubbish.
