I'm gonna give you some good, fatherly advice. FORGET IT! I own a body shop. I get parts cheap. It's the hours of labor that are really expensive. You will put hundreds of hours in a car if you want it to look really nice and not like a bondo buggy that some kid fixed up. Then even when you are done with it, it's still an old car. Something will always be wearing out or breaking down. If someone smashes into it, you wont get half your money back from the insurance company. Cars are a poor investment. If you add up all the hours you are going to put into that car and all that money in parts, you would have been better off getting a job at a fast food joint for the same amount of hours and saving your money to buy a reliable late model car. It's true. Fixing up old street rods is for people who have disposeable income and already have one or two reliable vehicles. Remember, a car is really only transportation from point A to point B. Once you make it more than that, once you allow it to become an extension of your personality or part of your identity, it will consume every spare dime you have. I never had a street rod when I was a kid. That's part of the reason I'm still alive and have a new house and a new Harley now.

the cost of parts is not really all that bad what you need to look into more is the availability. typically the more popular muscle cars ie: mustang, camaro, chevelle, chargers will be more available readily. so i would stick to the popular ones thats my 2 cents

i did that very same thing. i love my camaro, don't get me wrong but, gas is outrageous, things always go wrong, and parts do get expensive. i'd get something that is good on gas and that is reliable. then when you get a good and constant money flow, like when you get out of school, then work on your car. the longer you wait the sweeter it'll be.
