Could be something as simple as a fuse.
You may have had a stone of debris from the road hit the CONDENSER (looks like a radiator- in very front of car). In either case, the best thing to do is call an ASE certified repair shop and first ask them how much they will charge to CHECK IT OUT.
Do this before you drive there. Do not be afraid to call around.
If it is a NEWER car, you may still have some warranty on it.
There is a chance the dealership has a CHAMPAGNE or RECALL on your car. Call them and ask. This will only cost the phone call until you find out other wise.

It could be anything from it having run out of the free-on gas, to the compressor, to having forgotten to turn it on! LOL.
