Ack you're 36 weeks pregnant and dont' know what effacement is! Oye... ok, ummm.... let me try and answer your questions.
Lots of people have delivered 4 weeks early. Lots of people have delivered 4 weeks late as well.
A UTI will not make you go into labor... UTIs during pregnancy are very very common and are treated with antibiotics. Very simple. A UTI at the end of your pregnancy will make you a little crampy, pee a lot more and can cause some damage ot your bladder, but this wont affect the baby in any way. If left untreated the infection can spread and YES that will put you into pre-term labor, and can cause fetal distress. Please take your antibiotics!
Effacement is the thinning out of the cervix, it's about 4cm long when full. If you're 50% effaced it means it's about 2cm long but still closed.
LOTS of woman sit at 3cm dialated and 90% effaced for weeks without delivering, you're at no risk for being 50% effaced.
www.babycenter.com has tons of information regarding labor and delivery, you should take a momment to read something about it before you go in.

Yes, a UTI can cause premature labor. Babies born at 36 weeks have about a 98% chance of survival but will probably spend some time in the NICU. Unfortunantly there is no way of knowing when your labor will start--women can walk around effaced and dilated a few cms for several weeks.

LOL i was walking around 50-80% effaced for about 3 months last pregnancy! :) but about a UTI, it CAN cause you to have contractions, which THOSE contractions CAN put you into labor. but if your cervix is still closed, you should be alright. my last baby was born at 36 weeks and 1 day. she was just fine. they DID want to monitor her just a little more...because she startled easily and that would make her oxygen level go down a bit and it irregulated her heart rate a bit...but she was fine. she came home with me the next day too. (btw, she STILL startles easily...she gets that from me. it doesn't take anything to get me jumping outa my skin...horror movies? forget about it!)
but i was 1 cm dilated and 80% effaced at 30 weeks and didn't deliver until 36 weeks. i think you'll be fine! don't worry! hopefully you'll get some antibiotics that can clear up your UTI quickly anyway, they are NO fun! good luck to you!

I am 34 weeks and have had bouts of preterm labor. they tried blaming last weeks contractions on a UTI. My doc quickly changed his opinion when I started to dialate. I was already very soft and a fingertip dialated (since 25 weeks). They rechecked the urine and could not see any signs of a UTI (which irritate the uterus and cause contractions but don't usually cause cervical changes). I went to two centimeters dialated that week and they gave me three shots of terbutaline to stop them again. You could be at your level for another two weeks. I delivered my other two at 38 weeks and I was dialated with both of them for more than a month.
Good luck.

I had my first baby 4 weeks early, the doctors thought that the UTI I had may have had something to do with it. I had another baby 10 years later that was born at 26 weeks (14 weeks early) due to an incompetent cervix.............they think.
My only advice is to pay attention to your own body, regardless of the advice you get from others.

It's a yeast contamination that is incredibly itchy and painful and the raised crimson bumps are more often than not simply from scratching and rubbing the field. The satisfactory factor to do is get a kind of at dwelling kits that works in a million to three days like Monistat three or whatever nearly that. I obtained a yeast contamination throughout being pregnant and my OB gave me the ones instructional materials. Good good fortune!

I had a son at 36 weeks. I had to be induced due to preeclampsia. Yes having a UTI can cause labor. Hope everything is OK. My son was great! Good luck

I don't know if it can cause labor, but it's not a great thing. You are far enough along that the baby should be fine, though. In the meantime, drink a TON of cranberry juice.

i don't think a uti should do nything they will just put yo on meds while you give birth. they wn't let you go 4 weeks over. they will induce at or beore 42 weeks. i've been thinning andeverything since like 34 weeks. i'm now just 80% not even a whole 1 cm dilated and -1 station. it happens differently with everyone.
