First off, we know that the field is 85 feet long. And since its a rectangle it has two sides the same length for a total of 2x85=140 feet.

Now, subtract 140 from the total feet. 296-140 and you get = 156 for the remaining two sides combined. Dive this by two to get the width of each remaining two side of the triangle 156/2=78.

The field was 85 feet long and "---78---" feet wide.

cheers!

perimeter is all the way around. So the perimeter is 296. To find the perimeter of a rectangle you add all the sides. Two sides are 85 each. The other side is x.

p = 296

85 + 85 + x + x = 296
170 + 2x = 296
2x = 126
x = 63
