can I open a MS word document of 97 edition in XP Edition????If yes, then how?

Open the MS word app first, then goto File>Open, and find the document. You will probably be asked if you want to convert it to Word-XP format, and that's your choice. If you don't need it win Word 97 anymore, then click yes. Otherwise click No.

It should have no problem, you just need to have MS Word they are all backwards compatible with each other..

Sure you can, just download and install openoffice.
