i agree that its ridiculous. cleopatra would have been quite a dark skinned woman. more darker skinned than the current modern asiatic egyptians currently living in egypt. I wouldnt be all conspiratorial and say its because white anglo saxons want to take the credit for egypts vast advances in modern civilisation. When the arabs invaded north africa they felt the need to de-africanise egypts monuments and if you remember the sphynx with no nose. That was destroyed so no one would know of its african creators. Its sorta like russel crowe playing maximus in the movie gladiator with a thick english accent. even though he portrays a roman. Beats me, hope that sheds some light onto it.

First of all, Cleopatra was not 'black as tar'. Do you have some photograph of her to prove this statement? Historians claim that Cleopatra was of Greek descent. But even if she was Egyptian, she still would not have been 'black as tar' as you claim. Egyptians...especially those of the north...are lighter skinned, appearing more Arabic than African.
Secondly, many darker skinned historical figures were portrayed by white actors until the 1960's.
Thirdly, why is this question in the LGBT section? Was Cleopatra a lesbian?

Know nothing of the movie other than Christina Ricci in short shorts. Other than that , HEAR HEAR! Ive thought the same. I just want to know when are we "Paid up"? I mean I know it was horrible but it happens to so many other cultures and no one says a word. The american indian was so looked down upon that they werent even considerd useful as slaves. They were just hunted like animals. Every single culture on the face of the earth has been treated terribly by another at some point in history. When is it allowed to say enough get over it?

Because she was a white woman.
The ruling class of Egypt at the time were of the Ptolemaic Dynasty. They were the descendant of Alexander the Greats followers and ruled the region after his death.
They were of Hellenic lineage, coming from Greece and Macedonia.
it is not just movies but actual busts and artists of the time which portray her of fair comlexion.

Because it is a biased portrayl of Hollywood. Trying to make a reflection of their own image. It is silly, and stupid.
