Took my car to the dealership to fix the passenger-side mirror that fell off when I hit an object, and Ford charged $319.00 to replace it!
$135 for labor, and $163 for the part.
What is the hourly labor at these places? Well -- kinda ripped off I guess. It's my fault for taking my car there but I'm not a handy man.

to the girl who said to get a Toyota:
My mom has a Toyota, and guess what? Her mirror is f*cked up too! LOL. I guess it runs in the family.

It's not uncommon for a dealership to charge $120 and up per hour. Because dealerships handle factory warranty work--and they handle a lot of it--they need some way to recoup the loss of funds...especially where Ford is concerned, because Ford is infamous for having terrible warranty support.
If your Ford is reasonably new, it will have electronic adjusting mirrors. Those assemblies are very complex and are infamously difficult to replace, especially if the wiring has been damaged. $319 was probably dealer list on the part, and seems more than fair to me. The same mirror from Jaguar would have set you back $650--for the part alone!
So no, you weren't ripped off--the dealer charged a fair price for the work they did installing the mirror.
Perhaps since your car is out of warranty it's time to find a good ASE-certified and Ford-trained independent mechanic--you'll find your repairs will be much cheaper in the long run, and the quality of work is just as good.

65 bucks an hour is not out of line. Also shops flat rate, which means they have a book that tells them how long the repair will take. If it says 3 hours in the book they charge you for 3 hours, even if it only takes them 1 hour to do the job. Now the funny thing, if it for some reason takes them longer than the flat rate.....guess what! They charge you the actual time. So it sucks, best bet buy a shop manual, unless your time is worth more than 100 bucks an hour its a good investment, for a side view mirror it should only take a amateur about an hour to replace it with the help from a shop manual.

Rest easy, you weren't ripped off. These automated mirrors are high dollar and are a fairly technical job to replace. A private shop could have replaced it a little cheaper but you were still looking at $250-300 for it. There are fixes for it if you can apply glue. In the future ask answers for help.

Do you know any local shops that friends use. Most dealer parts can be bought through independent shops with very low mark up and the labor prices are much lower.

Rob - it doesnt matter how "unhandy" you are around your car - you still could have done it yourself, and bought the piece at a "pick and pull" lot for $20... Best part is, at the pick and pull lot, you can destroy someone else's old cluncker while you figure out how to do it right on yours!! Give it a try next time on those "easy" ones like a mirror replacement!

In California, the labor rate is approx. $65-$85 per hour. It sounds like they charged you about 1.5 hours labor.

They should have given you a written estimate and let you decide if you wanted to fix it.
