I prefer Amita. I'm not fond of names that end in an "I" sound (ie, i, y, etc.) I don't know why, i just don't. I suppose they sound more like nicknames to me.

I thought of using the name Nalini when trying to name my daughter (she's half black and half east Indian) but because I knew us American's would butcher the pronunciation I chose the name Priya. I love the way it rolls off the tongue (NAHL-ih-nee) unlike Amita which sounds a little more harsh. Both names are beautiful though! Congratulations!

i personally would go with Nalini. it sounds beautiful and exotic. Amita is cute, but to me sounds like more like a nickname for another name.
don't worry about your daughter being "made fun of" because her name i different. not EVERYBODY needs to have the name of shannon, jennifer, and jason~! LOL there is nothing wrong wit those names either, fyi...but it is nice to get a new name in every now and then :) teach your daughter the meaning of her name or why you chose it for her so she will be proud of it!

I like the name Nalini. It is really unique. It sounds like an actress or singer. Glad you thought of it. Hope you use it. We could use a Nalini in this world. ;)

I like Nalini better. It's very lovely
As for all of the people saying they dont' like either name or pick something else, keep your thoughts to yourself and move along. She didn't ask whether you liked either name. She asked which one is better.A lot of people name their children things that some people will like, and others will not. Honestly, grow up!
And good luck with your pregnancy and soon-to-be baby!

I think that Nalini has a very soft girlish ring to it, She probably
will change it when she gets to be a teenager . I wish you
all the luck in the world and may your daughter be surrounded
by enduring love always.
