Very subjective, but I'll answer anyway. No! We are a mobile nation. A nation that has always gone where the action is. People in other countries are born, grow up, live and die in the same home. Americans are always seeking opportunities, anywhere we find them. The automobile is the testament to our mobility. we are the greatest nation on earth due, in a large part, to this unique characteristic of our society.

longterm thinking.....yes , but then again the american "mind set"
is mostly short term enjoyment. The car is not just a way to get arround but a way to address status and personal image. basically (in california at least) cars govern how we interact in society. so to answer the question yes. (even though im a car inthueist)

Cars are a necessity here because our infrastructure is built for them. Other countries are centuries old and their cities were built before cars were around and everyone had to walk to where they are going. Most of our cities are very spread out. It would take me two days to walk to work if I didn't have a car.

We wouldn't be spending more than we should, if they weren't over-priced and if our salaries would go up every year to meet-up with inflation demands.

This is a huge subject.
