RE:
Is it safe to eat California rolls while pregnant? Is there anything in seaweed that is harmful to a fetus?

I know it is a no no...but I ate suishi with all of my pregnancies. They even had a doc call it a myth in one of those baby shows (I do not know how reliable he is however). It's the mercury level you have to worry about and also the weakened immune system. I have never gotten sick and have had healthy children. A million japanese women can't be wrong. :) Seaweed is probably a good source of fiber and there is nothing raw in california rolls. Eat away...I'd fear the wasabi (if you have indigestion) or the soy sauce (sodium and swelling are so blah to have) than I would worry about the awesome source of omega 3 fatty acids and protein.

Just my opinion.

California Rolls And Pregnancy

The fake crab that most sushi places use in California rolls carries the same listeria risk as all lunch meat. Some places use real crab which is much safer.

You need to weigh the risks and benefits.

Seaweed is very healthy though and many pregnant moms take it as a suppliment.

The things you need to avoid are raw meat such as raw fish, soft cheese ie - blue cheese. uncooked eggs etc. Basically you want everything you eat to be cooked. No a california roll should be fine b/c typically it doesnt contain anything raw. Seaweed itself is fine to eat

I always wondered the same thing. I suppose in moderation is fine. My concern always was the seaweed as well, I always thought that's how they used to abort babies. But I cant find any information on it.

California rolls are fine because they have no raw fish in them. I ate them all the time while I was pregnant. My doctor ok'd it.

Mmmm SUSHI!

The only thing they say about seafood is to be careful about food poisoning, a pregnant woman is especially sensitive to this.

Be very cautious where you get it from and you should be fine.

OMG now i want sushi!
