No it is not fair. Not for either side of it. It assumes that some people can't make it on their own merits but also punishes people who are qualified. If college apps. didn't ask the race of the applicant it would be have to be based on merit. At which point if college's demographics are pointing towards a particular group of people then the issue is the K-12 systems.

fair? not really. but neither is racism or slavery. or LIFE for that matter. it's just a state-sponsored way of getting us to assimilate and become more accepting of other races. since people aren't doing it by themselves well enough yet, affirm. action MAKES us do it. sad but true.

nicely, i'd imagine that socioeconomic is more beneficial efficient than race because being undesirable is the real handicap. regrettably, racial discrimination nonetheless exists and we would opt for the present affirmative action. the different difficulty with affirmative action is that, for my section, does no longer create equality in any respect. And is bigoted too. i'd ideally opt for some thing that benefits actually potential and not in any respect race or how a lot money you had. we do not stay in a perfect international although.

Is preferential treatment to people solely based on someone's race fair? When whites received such preferential treatment simply because they were white, it was racism. Now, when blacks receive such preference, it's "affirmative action." Racism is racism no matter what they call it.

No it's not, since it causes the admission process to bypass the best candidate and take somebody who normally would not.
