YOU file a police report, and report it to the DMV as required by law. Even if the collision was YOUR fault, the other party is guilty of Hit-And-Run, and can be prosecuted.

You notify your insurance company of the facts, and they will send in a report and proof if insurance it it's required in your area, and will also be alerted if they decide to claim millions in damages later.

do what ironhand and oklatom have suggested,its part of c.y.a and if they try to make a claim against ya, your insurance the police etc, are already gonna be on your side.
