Also - has any one had this with the normal Xbox? Mine died a few months ago, but it seemed that there may have been a problem with the power cord so I ended up buying a new one.

mine hasnt yet anyway and it is 4 months over the warranty. didnt hear any problems with friends 360's either.

Just seen it on Wingedog. £85 for a replacement one seems like a bargain though.

I read that 360s use a LOT of power, A LOT, and needs to be plugged into the wall not into 4-way gang socket as the fluctuations in power cause the processing chips to malfunction.

It is human nature to try and JOIN incidents. That said, there is simply NO WAY to technically fail hardware devices in a manner such as that, and there is no way ethically or legally to intentionally fail software like that. (Class Action would kick in, bad press, etc.)

Now it IS possible that the X360 is designed to run too HOT and after a period with coincidently matches the 1 year warranty, then some components could fail. (power supply, cpu, etc).

no lol, but only the people where this happens moan about it
you dont hear people saying, OMFG my xbox is on its last day of warranty and its working
