It can't be the quantity of meat in a hamburger. Is it the way it is cooked, the bun, or what?

Ok, once again a question about fast food has been answered byt he typical, ill-informed answers.

Having managed a large franchise of fast food restaurant, I know that the burger meat its self is no more fattening than a pork chop. Also, the grilling process in most fast food restaurants makes it less fatty than you would imagine.
The surprising amount of calories comes from the bun. They are made to a special recipie with added sugars to enable them to caramalise quickly. In a Burger King Restaurant, it takes just 4 seconds to toast the bun.
Also, the cheese and mayonaisse hide an awful lot of calories and fat.
If you were to stick to a hamburger with just ketchup, mustard and onions it really isnt that bad for you. Obviously, the fries etc add calories on, but the burgers themselves arent to bad if you choose carefully.

Burgers are made from minced beef and have a lot of added fat and salt in . A steak or pork chop is a pure cut and has far less and once cooked the fat can be cut away and not eaten.. It's the amount of fat and salt that makes burgers unhealthy compared to a piece of meat that weighs the same! As burgers are usually served with a mayonaise type dressing that adds even more fat and salt. Chips or french fries that are served with burgers are cut thinly and have more surface area that soaks up some of the fat they are cooked in. The bun is usually white bread which also has salt and sugar added and the healthier option would be wholemeal bread. So the healthier choice would be a piece of steak in a brown bun and steak-cut chips!

It's the fat content. Get the cheapest grade of meat and charge a fortune. Yes, those other items have fat but that can be cut around. With g/b you get it all. Ask to see the grease drippings from the grills from one of those FF restaurants. Or if they don't let you see it, go work there for a week.

its the amount of saturated fat, saturated fat is the stuff that congeals when its cold so all the stuff that drips out when you hold it = bad
its also the salt content and sugar in them
we eat way to much salt and it hardens the arteries but your taste buds respond to it which is why people add it, not because their body needs it
dont be confused by the dodgy claims they make either, you notice the dont talk about the stuff they put in the buns and sauces lol
Its also basically unhealthy because theres nothing good in it, its just fats and proteins

The quality of the meat in fast food is worse.
Fast food is full of sugar and salt, and has way too much fat.
They are very unhealthy.

Because a burger has every part of the cow in it where as a steak is a pure cut of meat.

It's very difficult to go to a fast food joint and not get something fried (burger, crispy chicken, fries, poppers, taco shells, etc.).

While most places offer a healthy option or two, they don't taste very good, nor do you say "I'm going to Carl's Junior for a salad!"

everything is fried usually. lot of fat content in meat to make it tastier, as well as lot of salt. lot of bread (buns) and other carbs (french fries) and very few vegetables (dehydrated onions on the burger). drinks mostly hi sugar content soda

It's not really the burgers that are so incredibly bad for you--it's all the deep fried stuff with trans-fat,like fries, and chicken nuggets.
