At 59 I have one goal. I intend to LIVE until I die. I do have certain health issues and I do have to take reasonable care of myself but I will be damned if I would trade one day of LIVING for a month of EXISTANCE.
I speak from experience, a week in an ICU is nothing but existance, and it is NO fun.
So throw away all those life expectancy charts and live the life you have.

You're quite young, I presume. Once you are in your fifties, you don't sit around asking yourself about the rest of your "usable years," whatever that means. There are other more important (and fun) things to do with one's time. And no one knows how much time they have left. You could be 20 and die tomorrow, or 50-something and live another four or more decades.

You're really young, aren't you?
I'm 50 and the last thing I want to do is to worry about what to do during the "usable years" of my life. I'm too frickin' busy to waste one moment on that! It annoys me when people mourn their birthdays or "what might have been." Move on. I'm too much a realist to worry about things I did or didn't do. I learned from my mistakes, try not to make them again, enjoy the good things I have at the moment. I know clearly what I like and don't like and will obviously try to have more of what I like as I go forward, day by day.

there are a lot of more interesting fun things to do, for example hang around all afternoon on yahoo answers lambasting innocent people for using the forum for the purpose it was intended. That's a whole lotta fun!
I personally would like to send the kids to college, pay off the houses and do some travelling with my husband.
