You could also do the "poor man's copyright" and place your song on a cd and mail it to yourself. It will be dated by the federal government and not cost you whatever it is to legitimately copyright it. So if there is ever a dispute you can open your dated envelope to say you had it at a said point in time

US Library of Congress Website. Google "Copyright, Library, Congress, Application" and it should come up. Fill out the correct form, attach a printed copy of your song, and mail it in with the fee, which I think is $30. After a while, you'll get a certificate.
