Straining is normal, but crying when they have a bowel movement is not normal. It's best to call your pediatrician and tell them what she's doing. It could a number of things causing this problem and it's best if your pediatrician sees her to rule out anything serious like a twisted intestine or herniated intestine which would require surgery if that's the case. Chances are it's simply the formula she's on that doesn't agree with her, if she's on formula. Try not to panic but do get her looked at for precautions. My oldest child had the same problem with passing bowel movements but it was his formula, we simply did a switch in the type of formula and within a few days he was just fine. But I did take him to the pediatrician just to be sure and for my own piece of mind. I hope this helps and I hope I didn't give you too much of a scare. Good luck!

try mixing light corn syup only 1 table spoon with every 4 oz of milk I don't believe juice is you best choice right now also try some pedialite no flavor this is what i had to do with my daughter she went a week with out a bowel movement and she seemed like she was in pain as well and the doctor in the emergency room said that it was normal kids can go two week and be fine. also try a glyseren suposatory sounds gross I know but after you stick that up there but the poop will be out in less than 15 mins I promise and there will be a lot. And you will feel better and so wont your child but only get the pediatrion size suposatory and only use them if it is hurting them to go and hasn't gone for more than 3 days

My baby was a preemie and we had the same problems due to formula issues. Until we got her formula straight our peiatrician said to add a few drops of cairo syrup to her bottle and it would help her go to the bathroom. I used to cry because my baby was so little and she was hurting so bad, i called the hospital every minute it seemed like. Do the cairo syrup thing and try a different formula, carnation good start if that doesn't work use isomil, it cost a little more but it is so much easier on your little one. You need to try different formulas out but do it once a week.

Both of my children were constipated as infants. They were both bottle fed (sadly, I had no choice) and hear that it is more common in bottle fed babies. After consulting with my pediatrician, prune juice worked MUCH better for my kids, than apple juice. Also, there was a time or 2 that as an "emergency", he suggested I used baby sopositories to relieve the pain. (Check with your Dr. first before trying any of the suggestions on this forum).

if she is on formula then she may be constipated give her some juice like white grape juice in small amounts with some water or give her some sugar water since she isnt old enough to digest these things it will cause her body to have a diarrehic reaction but not with the diarrhea it will just cause her body to make the stools easier to pass. If she is breastfeed then she is probaly not constipated babies can do all kinda things when pooping but if on formula she may not be able to tolerate so much iron or milk protein and you may need to switch to like gentlease enfamil or simliar formula

When that happened to me my pedetrician said to give him some apple juice. So, I just put it in a bottle and fed it to him. However, I'd recommend watering down at least. Because, my son threw a fit the next time I went to feed him from the bottle...he wanted the sweet juice.

Otherwise, just give it to him in a small travel cup or those little paper cups in the DIXIE bath dispensers. Or, even a sippy cup will do. Just make sure you go nice and slow so he doens't choke.
