Also downloading pictures from my cameral.

Which would be better for me?

I believe you mean a laptop or desktop. A desktop is better for trusting your valuable informatiopn, as you could drop the laptop and lose information you need for work. However, a laptop is useful for uploading pictures from your camera away from home and freeing up space on your camera on the fly.
You said you are not usually on a computer at home, so I would i conclusion recommend getting a laptop.

well, if you want a computer that will last you a while, I Desktop will probably do, but if it's only for work and other nick-nacks such as photos, a laptop is fine, but keep in mind that you'll have to buy a new laptop within three or so years, usually, they don't last that long before upgrades are out of the store and expensive to find for your old laptop.

Good Luck

You mean laptop or Desktop. A pc stands for personal computer which could still be a laptop.

Secondly if it's for research and photos I suggest a laptop so that you can carry it to sites. Complete research on site and use Wireless Internet out and about.

Note that laptops have very short lifespan compared to desktops.
Desktops are also much easier to fix and upgrade.

However it's your call..

Personally I use a desktop but I had to consider your uses and needs.

I would always choose a pc over a laptop. Laptops are easyer to drop and break. If a part goes bad or gets old in a pc, you can easly replace/upgrade it your self, if you have a laptop, you would need to send it in for repair or buy a new one.
