They gassed them in movable chambers (like gas chambers on lorries :-/)then transported the secure containers - they then ground all the turkeys into a pulp. Burnt off all disease and water. Finally they transported the solid residue to land fill sites - where the government assures us they are free from disease at this point.

They incinerated all the turkeys from Bernard Matthews plant as it is the only way to ensure the disease does not spread like wildfire.

i've just watched the news report.
the area in hertfordshire where this infected birds r being slain was as secure as UK borders!
gulls flying in & out of the pit, dragging turkey giblets everywhere.
truly gross.
i won't b surprised if there's another out-break, sooner rather than later.

they are supposedly gassed but other sources (and certainly in other countries) due to the scale and sheer number of them they are buried alive in massive pits.
