i live in a very rural area and i don't think cable or dsl is available to us so ive been looking into satelite internet, but i don't know if it is fast or if i will be getting my money's worth........ is there an inexpensive way around this?

Satelite internet has a very fast download speed. Much faster than cable/DSL, but has a very slow upload speed. So if you just plan on surfing the web, then you will be fine, but if you use file sharing networks or any thing that requires you to upload alot of data, then that part would be slow.

I believe there are also latency issues that might be a problem for some time sensitive applications. The signal has to travel between the satellite and your device and it will take some amount of time, even if the bandwidth is equivalent to that of broadband. This may or may not be an issue for you (if you use a VPN to connect to a work network, you might want to check with the provider to see if others have had issues).

ive heard its pretty fast. although the initial expense is pretty high...
