At a Science-themed party (which was great fun for them), my 6-yr old daugher was given 2 mealy worms as they all were (along with non-living things, for making snow & experiments)... while I've learned they're not worms at all, but adolescent beetles that live underground.. I'm dreading when they become beetles and fly off in our place. So, how do I raise these things (oats, apples) and what do they turn into, anyway? Any link for this stuff?

They will actually become what are commonly called darkling beetles (family Tenebrionidae) These beetles are really neat, I have raised them myself, if your daughter was fortunate enough to get a male and a female, then you can start a colony, and they will continually reproduce. I have raised them before in a saw-dust medium, sand, or even oats if you like. You can feed them breads, fruits, vegetables, all sorts of things. When you have a large colony, you can use them like a compost....its really cool!

the adult beetles, depending on the species, are usually about 1/2 an inch long. They actually don't fly very often, I have never personally witnessed on fly in my entire life and I have raised hundreds, literally hundreds of them. Actually we always kept them in containers that didn't even have lids on them.....never saw any walking around...
They have wings, all beetles do, but for some reason they elect never to use them.....

I hope this answers your question, I'm sure you'll truly enjoy this new entomological experience....

Oh and one more thing, if you notice that all of a sudden there is no movement from your little meal worms for some period, it is probably because they are pupating.... just like butterflies, well not exactly the same, but similarly, they have a sessile pupal stage in which the larvae transforms into an adult, so just give them a while!

i do no longer think of there is any actual meat in McDonalds hamburgers. My husband used to artwork there an prolonged time in the past and he reported whilst he first began out cooking hamburgers they have been extensive yet via the time he have been given executed cooking them that they had reduced in size each of how right down to just about no longer something and he reported if he did no longer get them off the grill in time then they thoroughly dissolved into no longer something and grew to grow to be grease. So in case you flow away a McDonalds hamburger patty on the grill to cook dinner it is going to thoroughly dissolve right into a puddle of grease. So i do no longer think that they use mealy worms via fact even they're actual meat yet I do have faith that they are generally lard with pink meat fillers alongside with enormous quantities of salt thrown in all mixed supplies it that very icky flavor that I hate. McDonalds is the granddaddy of the main disgusting eating places you will desire to ever probable dine at.
