Well for starters a 2yr degree in admin of justice is very very helpful. All military experience is considered a plus. Also doing ride alongs to see if you like this line of work. Pick up an application packet. You can also private pay and attend a p.o.s.t. academy and you will be more marketable. Hoever if you do the schooling and have a good background check and character references than you can be hired and the station you are hired at will pay for your academy. It is about 6 months if I am correct. CHP also is hiring right now. They have raised the age at which you can still be an officer. It is easier in my opinion to get on in the bigger cities too.
