As has been pointed out, darkness is merely the absence of light. It's useful as a noun and general concept, but there's no physical phenomenon directly associated with darkness. Does silence exist? Does blandness? They're all just the absence of a particular sensory medium.

Of course darkness exists. Darkness is not a physical thing, it is a state, something that happens.
Or course it is also the absence of light too.

My theory is that darkness can never be absolute. The reason? Scientific. Light acts as electromagnetic waves but also at subatomical particles known as Fotons. Matter exists everywhere, and since fotons can travel for infinite distances, they can be found everywhere. This is also why people that are allergic to light always have some reaction even in an extremely dark room. So even in a closed dark room, boarded up and enclosed light particles are still present, meaning that darkness can never be complete.
But what would darkness theoritacally be? absence of light? or inexistence? if we can see the "dark" that we perceive as the colour black it would mean that we need a minimum amount of light particles to perceive it. Pure darkness i beleive is inexistence. But we have never experienced it because we can not understand it.
So in conclusion total darkness cannot exist in our world.

Both....there is the darkness which is the absence of light. There is also the darkness within each of us..and that exists.

Darkness exist as only an explanation to humans as to why we cannot see an object due to the absence of light/energy. Light is only visible to those who can see it. If you are blind darkness does not exist, because of the fact that light and darkness are only visible effects.

.Darkness exists in the physical form as in the absence of light and in the spiritual sense as in the absence of God. Both are void of light.

It depends on how you define "Darkness." If you are going to define darkness as the absence of any form of energy, then that is question that cannot be known. The very fact that you are trying to measure something, imparts energy into the system and therefore it is no longer "Dark."
When you get to fundamental causes Philosophy and Physics merge.
