I recently moved out of state and immediately noticed that my tap water tasted awful, so I bought a Brita water filter, and while it made the water taste better it seems that deposits are clogging my humidifier despite using filtered water. I would like to know of any tips people might have. Vinegar seems to be a popular remedy, but it isn't very efficient, and I'd rather not have to buy the humidifier manufacturer's cleaner, partly because it is only sold online.

Tips are appreciated. :)

A whole house water softener or whole house water filter would do the trick, if you are the homeowner. No landlord is going to install one.

If you rent, you can get a bottle of KAZ humidifier treatment stuff at Walmart on the shelf beside where they sell humidifiers. It's only a couple of bucks. That will help prevent lime-scale buildup, but it will NOT eliminate it. You will pretty much need to use white vinegar to periodically clean the humidifier. I know, it stinks. But it works really well!
