you have´t said what kind of stains, red wine stains, add a little white wine then blot with kitchen roll this will lift out the stain . Normally this should be done straight away , but it will take most if not all the stain out , I find that most stains come out easier with your own hair shampoo , a little on a sponge , and wipe . Remember always wipe inwards of the stain otherwise the stain will spread further , then rinse with a sponge . make sure you get all the soap suds out then lay a towel on top with a heavy object on top , this will help dry any remaining water from the underside of the carpet , You may have to sponge clean again as more than sure the water stain will come to the surface ,Wax Stains, Use a brown paper bag . lay the paper bag on top of wax , then with a warm to hot iron iron on top off the bag this will left the wax onto the paper . blood stains . use salt. hope this has help you a little

I don't know about carpet but I use it by putting about a cup in an old pot with equal parts water, bring it to a boil, then let it simmer. It makes the whole house smell great. As for the carpets, I'm sure if you dilute it enough and test in a hidden area to make sure it won't stain, it should be ok. I've used Pinesol on carpets before that turned out fine.

I was out of Zep Carpet cleaner & tried the green fruit Fabulso in my rug doctor carpet machine, 2 gallons hot water & 1 cup Fabulso. It worked great-removed urine stains from dogs & smelled wonderful too. I will use it from now on-much better than Zep Industrial Caret Cleaner-
