I didn't have a wedding and now I want to have something like one. Some of my family wants my husband and I to renew our vows and some suggested a big anniversary party. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!! What ever occurs, it will be on our 5th wedding anniversary.

At five years I don't think I would have a big anniversary party. I would be more interested in renewing our vows and having a nice party afterwards.

5 years is a bit early for renewing your vows. As for a "big" anniversary party, I think that's also a bit too much for only 5 years.
I don't mean to put a damper on your celebration, because it truly is worth celebrating. I just think that if you have a blowout party after 5 years, what will you be doing in 10, 20, 25, 40 and 50 years?
A nice dinner party with close friends and family would be more appropriate. Make it a theme party, or you can buy one of those murder mystery dinner parties where every person dresses up as a character. Tons of fun, as you stay "in character" throughout the evening (drinks, appetizers, dinner, dessert), and you have to eventually figure out who committed the crime.
If that's not your cup of tea, then head out for a nice dinner with friends and family.

BTW....Congrats!

Might I suggest a small ceremony? something more fitting and perhaps more fun?

Anyone here ever watch This is Earl? In one of their sitcoms a couple got married. They had an all Junk Food Reception were all finger foods like Twinkies, ho Ho's, Ding dongs and it was outside. Nicely laid out and oh so colour full. I think it was brilliant. Have a preacher dress as a clown and perform the remarriage.

I would build upon it in a fun-land somewhere where everyone can have a blast and have like a second childhood. This is for everyone besides you. Then when you get to Ten years married then you really have bragging rights and have earned that Ten year ring as well as a big mature wedding. Honestly, do we really has as much fun as we can have during receptions? NOT USUALLY! Go have fun with this

Why on Earth would you think that being married a mere 5 years is something worth having a huge anniversary party over? I realize that being married 5 years is probably a long time these days, but when you're married for 25 years THEN you can honor yourselves with a huge party and tons of gifts for achieving a major milestone. Until then a nice dinner, a nice gift, and an evening of love making should be more than appropriate.

Why can't you do both. Have a simple, nice ceremony for the renewal of vows then have the bash. Have fun. And congratulations. My husband and I plan on renewing our vows and have a nice quiet celebration. It's our 25th.

Vow renewals finished good are great yet that's of course purely yet another case of somebody who feels they did no longer get a "genuine wedding ceremony" and needs to placed on a tutor for presents/interest. Your pal is not any longer a bride, she is a spouse and mom. The time for a tub and bachelorette social gathering have handed.
