If you want to make it to the top, be prepared to kiss a lot of the bottom.

What motivates someone to do so? ambition of sorts, to be in the good ol' boys network, to make more money, job security, bragging rights.

For some people they never make it to the top, they're not psychologically built for it. They never understand sacrifice, standing their ground, being a good employer, being a good leader, manager, technician and psychiatrist.

Easiest way to make it the top, however you define it, is to make your own top.

The speed depends on how hard you work, how lucky you are, and how ruthlessly ambitious you are.

People are motivated by many things, eg money, power, or the desire to be able to influence things rather than always being influenced/controlled by others.

Good luck!
