1. What is the most important thing you have ever had to explain to a co-worker or subordinate that you think should not have needed explaining? That is, that it should have been self-evident, or taught him or her long ago.

2. Which policies of this company need pointing out to a new employee because it is not self-evident? (e.g., don't ever park near the door, as we need to keep those spaces open for clients.)

3. Which equipment routinely used by new employees needs the most training time, and what would you do to improve training on it? (e.g., the copier in the back is connected to the bookkeeper's computer as a printer, and certain circumstances apply if it is being used in that capacity when you want to use it. Improve by giving bookkeeper her own printer.)

4. Which of our annual activities do we need to remember to mention to a new employee to give them something to look forward to? (e.g., the Christmas party is special because the office manager is a great cook, and at Christmas she makes many of her best dishes.)

You see my point? Training of new employees is mostly about what's different here from where they worked last. The new job itself, and the environment in which that new job is to be done.
