I have a 2001 Tracker with just over 100K miles on it. It has developed a serious water leak (fresh water, not coolant). It occurred suddenly. We had some fairly heavy rains the last few days and it is puddling water in the drivers foot well. After a rainy night there was nearly an inch of standing water. No other parts of the car's interior are getting wet. Careful inspection of the drivers door didn't show anything suspicious. The weather stripping is in tact with no indication of water past the stripping. The threshold is dry also. I think it is coming through the firewall but so far I haven't been able to isolate the source.
Has anyone experienced something like this?
Were you able to stop the leak?
If so, what did you do?
Is this a common Tracker problem?

I can't imagine how, the vehicle was stationary all night and the hole would have to be high on the floor pan or the water would just drain out. Keep thinking, I really need help on this one.

I don't know the answer, but I can tell you how to find it yourself. 1st you need an assistant. Get inside while your assistant duplicates rain with a water hose. Trust me you'll find it. One more note, has the truck had a sound system installed?

My girlfriends late model BMW had a similar problem except it happened in the back seat foot well. If the tracker has sunroof/moonroof check the molding around that. If its not that then try the wetherstriping around the window on the drivers door. Get into the tracker. Have someone turn on the garden hose at your house full force. Spary moonroof/sunroof if it it has it and do the drivers window. If water gets in on the inside well theres the leak. Oh, on the BMW it turned out it was the weatherstripping around the glass in the left rear door (goes in the window channel).

Did you have the wind shield replaced recently? If you did than bring the car back to where you got it replaced. Also look up under the dash. If you see water spots or a Rusty line where water wash flowing than that is your problem. Also if your car is dirty like you never cleaned out the air vents which are under the wind shield wipers than try to clean them out. You could also try to remove the wind shield wipers and then remove the plastic cover that sits behind your engine. it is right on the bottom of your wind shield. This cover will be full of leaves and dirt if you have not kept your car clean. Their are passage ways that let water drain out from be hind the fire wail. If they get clogged up than this can cause the water to collect in their and it can either rot away the seal from your wind shield or worse it can rot away the bottom mounting area for your wind shield. I would take a hose and flush it out with water. Also if you find the drains, there should be one on either side of your truck they will empty out behind the front fenders. Every car has them and if they get clogged than water can start to collect their and it will rot away the weather striping or the metal. hop this helps. Either way your car will need to be brought to a body shop to be fixed.

Dang its one of those things you just have to look with a water hose or something and see where its coming from hard to ponder a quess .......sorry cant be of more help
