The deck is 10' wide and 28' long. There are three sets of stairs, two short, one long. It's Trex decking. I need to be able to keep out skunks, racoons, woodchucks, and the family dog. I have about two feet between the ground and the bottom of the deck at the tallest point by the house. I have an area of about 4' wide by 3' tall to enclose too.

what comes to mind is white gravel to make it look neat but I would think that boxing it in would invite critters. They burrowed under my deck so I just think keeping it opened with rocks would keep it uninviting. Maybe just put bushes around the openings.

I have a deck around our hot tub, and I use redwood lattice.

I want an extra step, though, becuase I didn't want so much noise from the pump unit, I got 1/4" plywood and painted it flat black, then sealed up the whole underside of the deck with that. THEN I put the lattice about 1" away from the plywood. When you look through the lattice, it's perfectly dark (like perfect shadows underneath the deck).

I love lattice, you could design your own and use a unique pattern.
