Unions are for labor workers in various industries.

The term "industrialists" refers to owners and very senior managers who are running firms that are classified under industry (oil, automaking, transportation, docks, etc) They are part of management.

Unions and management are traditionally at odd in this country.

Unions can help people fight back against employers who otherwise have too much market power & are able to squeeze wages down (and squeeze down spending on safety & benefits).

For heavy industries like coal, steel, and others, the employers usually do have great market power because there are relatively few producers & competition between producers is not intense.

Unions have been the only reliable way for workers to improve wages, benefits & safety since the federal gov't often will not enforce the laws that are on the books and will often write poor laws.

If I were a CEO of a major company I wouldn't think it necessary to have a union. For one reason, I would treat my staff so well they wouldn't feel the need have their voices heard.

I would carry out an open door policy were anyone can come and tell me whats on their mind. Of course I would want respect and that would be practice among the entire staff. I would offer higher wages then my competition, in order to have them want to work harder and longer if needed. I would offer more holidays so that they can spend time doing what makes them feel good.

A good company doesn't need unions.
