Congratulations on your pregnancy, its always a possiblity if there is a family history although they do say its more non identical twins what are the ones that increase the chances. I have identical twins, when I was pregnant with them they asked about history and we didnt know of any but later found out my great great grandmother had twins, since I have had mine we have had two more sets of twins on both sides of the family, my partners sister had identical girls and my cousin had non identical girls

It's generally 1 in 1,000 for Caucasians, that is, without any fertility treatments. For African Americans, the percentage is a bit higher.
African Americans related to the Yoruba tribe of Africa have a very high incidence of twinning (experts think it's because of something in yams, and their diet consists of a lot of yams)
Your husband's family's side incidence of twinning has nothing to do with your chance of having twins. Fraternal twins run down the maternal side of the family, as it has to do with the number of eggs that are released per reproductive cycle. Identical twins don't seem to 'run' in families...it is more of a luck thing.

Twins on your husbands side of the family won't make any difference as to whether you have twins... Twins have nothing to do with the sperm but how many eggs you produce...
So only twins on your side of the family would up the probability!

supposedly twins skip a generation, who knows. I have a great-grandmother that was a twin, with other sets of twins in her family, and my grandfather is also a twin, but I had a single pregnancy. It really depends on alot of factors at the time of conception!

i thought twins came from the mothers side, so if it was your grandmother had twins you would be more likely of having twins. But a large number of people believe most pregnancys start off with 2 fertalised eggs and one just never becomes implanted, either way have fun and enjoy the ride.

My husband is a twin and my brother and his wife had twins and my grandmother had twin brother and sister but I had 3 single births !!so I guess you have as much chance as anyone else..actually twins are quite common these days !congratulations anyway and I hope you have a healthy happy baby/babies!!

From what I've seen, identical twins are not hereditary. Fraternal twins are, but you are the only one that can determine that. Your husband cannot make you drop two eggs to make fraternal twins. I was once told that twins skip a generation (I don't know how true that is) so if hubby's gran was a twin that would mean you have a high possiblity of having them!
