should i give a description of the character?
and should i put the page number at the top or bottom of the page?

Why don't you start with some action. A fight or something interesting that will convince readers to turn the page. You could also start with dialouge. A mysterious conversation...
At the beginning, describe the characters just enough so that readers can tell them apart- by name, by hair color, by clothing, whatever. Never stop action to sit and describe them though. Weave your description in.

Judging by your narrative you answered your own question.

Certainly, character descriptions are a must, but do it a little here, a little there and in dialogue if possible.

A formatted manuscript for submission to an agent or a publisher will have it thus:

Name/TITLE of book page #

The page number is always to the far right of the page at the top, on line with what is called the "slug line."

For formatting instructions, consider finding the book "Formatting & Submitting Your Manuscript" by Cynthia Laufeberg.

you should start it off where someting interseting is happening. that'll keep the readers - trust me, that is how i like my books to start - then, as you go along, slowly (but vividly) describe your characters.

Please put the page # at the bottom!
