there are many variables-- concentration of urine, sensitivity of the test. Since true false positives are pretty rare, if you get at least one positive HPT, you are probably pregnant. Wait a couple of days and test again or try another brand if you are suspect.
Urine-based pregnancy tests vary widely in sensitivity. Often a home-based test (HPT) is much more sensitive than the kind your doctor's office uses. (Often doctors or clinics use tests that are sensitive to 50-100 mIU/mL of hCG; most home tests detect a level of 15-50 mIU/mL of hCG. See the HPT Overview for various HPT sensitivities.)

Practically speaking, this usually works just fine. By the time a woman suspects pregnancy and confirms with her doctor, she has usually missed her period, is farther along in her pregnancy, and has higher levels of hCG in her urine-- so a less-sensitive test will suffice. On the other hand, women who are trying to conceive and/or monitor their fertility are often much more in tune with their cycles and the potential for pregnancy, and therefore test earlier with more sensitive tests. So this scenario is actually fairly common. Because HPT's are extremely reliable, you should consider yourself pregnant following a positive test. Your doctor should retest your urine again in a few days, after your hCG has had time to increase.

days past conception/ovulation (DPO) hCG in mIU/mL
in singleton pregnancy
7 days 0 - 5
14 days 3 - 426
21 days 18 - 7,340
28 days 1,080 - 56,500
35-42 days 7,650 - 229,000
43-64 days 25,700 - 288,000
57-78 days 13,300 - 253,000
17-24 weeks 4,060 - 65,400
25+ weeks 3,640 - 117,000

False negatives are far more common than false positives. I would say yes there is a chance that you are pregnant and a good chance if you had a positive test result. The only thing you can do to know for sure is to go to the doctor. I'd like to add I see this question all the time and the simple fact is, if you have sex there is ALWAYS a chance you could be pregnant!

wait a few more days and then take another test. often, if you are only a few days late with your cycle, it can give the test the wrong answer because of your hormones. wait about a week after your expected start date. (or the date you would have normally ENDED your cycle) then take another test, and go with that answer. if you are still getting mixed answers, try going to the doctor for a blood test. they are accurate every time, whereas the urine tests can fail.
good luck.

Hmm.. all signs pointing to the fact that u are or could be pregnant. Usually the test is pretty accurate and the fact u are also late on ur period is another good indication. U should seek or consult with ur family doc ASAP.

Good luck!

When you did the second test maybe your urine was diluted by drinking fluids or not holding your urine for 4 hours before testing. Try 1 more test after holding your pee for 4 hours and not drinking anything. Or wait til tomorrow morning and use first morning urine. Also, be sure you are using a very sensitive test--www.peeonastick.com

Wait a couple of days and if you do not start your period, make a doctors appointment. Blood tests are better.

Those test could always be wrong. So the best thing you can do is go and have a doctor do a REAL pregnancy test.

I have heard of false negative tests but not false positives...I'd say it is likely that you are but give it a few more days and retest.
Good Luck

I would wait. I know its hard but this happened to me. First positive then negative then positive and then I got my period.

could have been pregnant and now you are miscarrying early. I would wait to see if af comes-- and if you tested at different times of the day the concentration would be different--- try again with first morning urine
