I have a wine barrow that I want to cut for a planter box but I dont want to ruin it by cutting it with the wrong tool. How would you suggest I cut it without ruining it? And will it splinter up after cutting?

use a blade for fine cuts that have a lot of teeth

Before you start to cut with the aforementioned tools, outline the intended cut with masking tape to prevent splintering. Then, too, the cut lines can be outlined in pen or pencil. My personal preference would be a circular saw. When you cut, leave a small section uncut so that the barrel does not try to fall apart or pinch the saw blade as you go around the barrel, Then you can finish the cut with a hand saw.

Good luck and enjoy your creation.

Circular saw, jigsaw, or reciprocating saw will all work, but Aussie is correct, use a fine toothed blade. It may splinter a little. Just hit it with a piece of sandpaper if need be.
