Depends on what your gas milage is...I usually dont go over 35 miles when mine comes on. I drive a 2000 honda civic and get 35 miles to the gallon

First you should know the consumption of your car. Than read the owner´s manual and look for how many fuel there is in the tank when the light comes on. Multiply the amount of fuel for the miles it does per galon and then you find how many miles you can drive. This range can change as you change the engine regime. Its important to keep more fuel at the tank, so you won´t damage the electrical fuel pump.

Every car is different. The best way to find out on yours is to put a full gas container in the back and when the light comes on, push the trip reset and drive until it runs out. Now you will know how far you can go, and your not stuck because you have spare gas.
