First of all, the iPod IS an mp3 player.
What sets the iPod apart from the attempted competition is "the system:" iPod - iTunes - iTunes Store. It all works seamlessly together. Plus there are thousands of iPod accessories made by 3rd parties.
This is why the iPod outsells all the competition combined.

i have an mp3 player which cost about 1/4 of an ipod and it works perfectly fine for me. if all u want is to listen to music just get an mp3 player, if u want brand name get an ipod.

Ipod is a brand of mp3 player. There are many better mp3 players, many with fm radios and replaceable batteries.

I have both but I like my Ipod because you can also have music and photos, some ipods you can even watch movies.
Make sure to get a warranty on it though. 3 years to good. They will just give you a new one, should there be any problem. I'm from Canaada, not sure how it works in other countries.

ummm, IPODS are Mp3 players dear.
its just a brand, but i have had a few, I love my ipod, the software is great, and if looking at vidoe, then the ipod is great, so is the creative labs.

They are both awesome! No matter which one you get, they all have one purpose:
to let the person listen to music without carrying around a bunch of CD's and cd players!
