Well with a decent sized load then a dishwasher. It is also more sanitary based on how hot the water is.
As to not keeping the water running all the time, well when I did dishes by hands I filled the sink, then rinsed them. So yeah you use a decent amount by hand.

I would say that it is more cost effective to use your dishwasher. You use water but not continually and you can sure be doing other things while your dish washer is running its cycle.

I have to say washing by hand would cost less unless your time is money. I like having my dishwasher doing to work while I enjoy other things like my kids or any thing I want to do. Time is money to me.

find out what the wattage is of your washer, add in the amount of water you use , plus the detergent. say your wattage is 2000 watts for example, if you ran your machine for e.g. sake for 1 hour,it has used 2 kilowatts of power, you might be paying 50 cents a k/watt, check your bill 1 hour =1dollar +water, say 60 cents +detergent say 30 cents total 1 hour=1..90 p/s i'm only guessing the unit prices, dut the formula is the same

By hand - you don't have to keep the water running the whole time - - if you have a window at your sink, I'll do'em for ya!!
