Vegans have a plant-based diet and refrain from eating any animal products and by-products including dairy and honey. Many vegans also choose to carry this lifestyle beyond diet and eliminate animal products from other areas of their lives (shoes, clothing, cosmetics, etc) in the attempt to consciously reduce animal suffering.

You can read the Vegan Society's guide to being vegan:

Do not eat any food that has any animal products in it. This includes not just meat and fish, but also eggs and dairy.
