I would fix him homemade chicken soup with peas, noodles, and little bits of carrots and chicken. It is good comfort food.
I also think good Earl Grey or regular tea and lemon makes one feel better.

Emma,
I've been poorly with a cold too for what seems like ages and the best thing is good old paracetemol. I am not sure if you are in the US or the UK but if in the UK beechams all in one cold and flu liquid works wonders and makes everything just go for a while and feel better. (i.e. the cold, headache, aches and pains, and the general crapness!!) You cant have alcohol with it though so not sure if you wanted a glass of wine with Valentines night. If not vitamin C also is good so anything like fresh orange juice, hot ribena/fruit cordial with hot water also made me feel 99% better for a while. You could also buy berocca tablets from the chemist which you put in water and they fizz and they are a high in vitamin c drink which my work colleagues seem to swear by but some have very high e numbers so check the label!
For tiredness nuts work for me to munch on so if you can incorporate them into any food that would be good - the high energy content always helps me so something like cashew nuts (unsalted kind) etc. A good old espresso is a good pick you up for a while but nothing beats an early night or time sat in bed watching tele or reading a book to relax.
Otherwise just be sympathetic sometimes is better than anything and let him have a good old moan!!!
Hope he feels better soon, with it being winter everyone seems to have something and it wont go away!!!!

Buy some fresh root ginger, a fresh lemon, a jar of clear honey and a small bag of brown sugar.
If you have a cafetierre thingy (you know - those posh coffee dooflops) all the better - if not - use a saucepan and a tea strainer.
Grate the ginger root and put it into the cafetierre - pour hot water in and allow to stand for approx 2 mins - push the lid down and pour the liquid into a cup/mug - add some fresh squeezed lemon (about 1tbsp) and about 1 tbsp of honey (more if you like it sweet) and some brown sugar - stir and drink!
All natural - warm and soothing - can have as many as you like

Thats a shame, esp on Valentines day. Hot bath with eucalyptus oil a nice meal and plenty of Vitamin C. In the long term try taking Cod Liver Oil capsules (1 a day type). I do and haven't had a cold for 4 years :o)
Good luck and hope Valentines goes well.

I hope you like garlic-that helps ward off colds and viruses because it is a powerful antiseptic. Helps keep blood pressure down and heart healthy too. Best crushed raw and added to foods-4 segments it said on The Truth About Food programme. If you both have it you won't notice it. Lemsip can help a little but colds just have to run their course. I don't think lemsips help that much but they taste nice. Best to just stay in bed and have a few days off work. Give the old bod a rest :-) Hope u both feel better soon.

My cold remedy is juice of a lemon and a clove of garlic chopped really finely then add boiling water (you can add sugar or hunney to sweaten it) and drink! Sounds disgusting but it works!
For a sore throat (if he has one) try making tea with some dried thyme and gargle with it! its a strong anti septic
For a runny nose try one drop eucalyptus and one drop peppermint essential oil on a tissue or put the two drops of oil in a bowl of warm but not boiling water put a tea towel over it and inhale the vapor that should clear nasal passages.
hope this was helpfull!

Multi vitamins like mega man from GNC and also extra Vitamin C should help him kick the cold, as far as immediate remedy maybe some tea w/ lemon and honey.
Other than that, maybe a shoulder massage will make him more comfortable.

Get some Zinc tablets at your local drug store....available over the counter....if you can't find them, ask the phamacist.
And of course...... keep warm, get as much rest as possible, and plenty of liquids....hot tea and broth are good....try and stay away from cold drinks unless it's just plain water.....but the Zinc tablets worked really well for me in the past....and they work quick.
If he has chest congestion....rub this chest and back with Vicks....and then put on a tee shirt and a sweatshirt.
Hope this helps....HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY !!!!

Chicken noodle soup, preferablly homemade, with him in the house (the smell helps too!). Zicam and Airborne both work really well at helping beat out a cold and make it last not as long. HTH
