Remind me what I voted for last November?

I feel like someone tricked me for my votes and I just want to make sure I wasn't ripped off.

Bush had to be stopped. That's the only reason the Democrats were elected. The Republicans should retake Congress in 2008.

Well, frankly, both parties trick you for your votes. I am more angry at how the Republicans trick religious people into voting for them. Then they do all sorts of very un-Christian things when in power. Oh yeah, they try to push an amendment to ban gay marriage, which everyone knew had no chance of passing. So it sure looks like they were doing something.

The non-binding resolution will, of course, be ignored by the White House. But it does send a strong message -- that essentially, the Congress, and therefore, the majority of voters in this country, are telling the president that we don't believe in his judgements anymore. The president will have much less "political capital" and will have to fight harder and harder to get anything done. Which is to say, he will no longer have carte blanche to do whatever the hell he wants anymore.

You have to understand that the Democrats know full well they cannot immediately come off as too partisan and militant toward the Republicans. That will only alienate voters.

As for defunding the war, that will NEVER happen. That's a sure way to lose support of the public. What they MAY do is restrict funding for any NEW troop buildup or for anything they see as unnecessary.

Don't get too jaded. All politicians are in the business of fooling the voters. Our country is really more of an oligarchy. The business interests are a much stronger political force than the general public. They're more organized, they have lobbyists, and they have most of the money.

The true power-plays that go on in Washington are hard to discern for people like you and me. All we see is the silly posturing. You can thank our useless news media for that.

You voted for change and as a Message. What you don't know is, they're all the same. For ex. there's a reason why Civil Rights ended with MLK's death, more or less -- and black america is now rap-stars & b-ball players (retroactive) entertainment. The Dem Party, since the 80's hasn't produced an authentic african-american national leader (which is why they're hustling with Obama now!) -- because they aren't what you think they are. They are GOP-Light (without the anti-crime and forceful int'l tactics). The Dems will say and do anything. PS - Pelosi has plenty of Mexicans on her Calif. vineyards, correcto? What's her stance of illegal Mex. immigration? Vote everyone out, and the Dems out too, next time. Weed through them.

There is a Constitutional process to rescind war powers that have been given to a president. A non-binding resolution is one of the first. It is putting the president on notice that his actions are going against what the people demand. Mr. Bush can't veto it and must respond. If he continues his illegal action, further steps will be taken with the final act impeachment and removal from office. In our democracy, you just can't walk in there, make him pack his bags and leave. For a good example of how this works, read what led to Mr. Nixons resignation from the presidency. At the end, he only had 2 options - resign or be impeached. If a president is impeached and removed, he can be charged with criminal behavior. It is considered treason to act agains the will of we, the people and our representatives in Washington. Just stand by - they are going to remove that madman from the White House and it won't take long.

That is all they can really do outside of starting some type of recall process to replace the president. They are pretty much stuck with the commander and cheifs decisions until we have a new commander and chief. If they cut funding the end result may be more devistating to the soldier working in Iraq then it ever would for the current beaurocracy.

No she was elected because the ones voteing for her is simple minded and finally been brainwashed to turn things over to those never chosen before. Some kind of history makeing thing. It's the same as hillary running, only because she is a woman, and no other reason

I assume we voted for two things.

1) Get out of Iraq

2) Tell the GOP their policies are not popular

"We"? You got a rat in your pocket?

That shrill, rich hypocrite fooled everyone. She's a socialist and an elitist posing as a Democrat. Can't wait for 2008. The Repubs will give the Dems just enough rope....God, I hope there's a viable third party candidate soon.
